Chip is a Global Ambassador with expertise in the Energy sector. He has extensive project development, asset development and finance experience with greenfield and acquisition targets in the energy sector, including the following activities: deal origination, financial analysis, due diligence, local partnering, land acquisition, permitting, risk assessment and mitigation, structuring and reviewing RFP’s, procurement, negotiating and documenting required project and financing contracts, board approvals, financial closings, and project execution. Chip has managed several teams of internal and external resources for greenfield power plants and acquisition activities, ranging from preliminary level-one analysis to the highly detailed and coordinated project execution geared towards the structuring and negotiating of required project documents to obtaining lender’s project financing.
Chip has substantial experience with varied technologies and differing installed capacity sizes – from hydro to wind to biomass to coal to diesel to gas, ranging from under 1 MW to over 1200 MW’s. Most recently these activities included the development and financing of an 800MW cogeneration plant for a pulp and paper plant in Northern Europe, with residual power being sold to local grid. Chip was the primary project director and he was responsible for leading all aspects of determining the plant’s economic viability for the investors as measured by company and industry standards. He has extensive experience in the various valuation methodologies and techniques, including: Discounted Cash Flow (DCF), with use of Internal Rate of Return (IRR), Net Present Value (NPV), Real Options Valuation (ROV), Economic Value-Add (EVA) and Monte Carlo Simulation.
Chip was previously a Director of Asset Development with Mirant, where he led numerous greenfield and acquisition activities. Before joining Mirant, Chip was with Wartsila’s Development and Financing Group, managing activities in Latin American and he worked as a Financial Analyst with the Overseas Private Investment Corporation’s (OPIC) Power and Project Finance Team. Chip holds an M.B.A. with an emphasis in International Finance from Thunderbird — The Garvin School of International Management.
