Project

Benchmarking Best Practices

Executive Summary

The client, a global energy company, launched a program to identify best practices in the function of shipping maintenance. With limited knowledge of shipping maintenance practices outside of the energy and utilities industry, the client engaged McQuilling Services and Navigate International to identify and engage a set of companies from multiple industries, to analyze and benchmark their shipping maintenance practices.

Business Challenge

The client’s management team has a strong contact network and deep knowledge of the energy and utilities industry. But in order to draw from a broader field of sources, the client needed to look outside the industry and around the world to truly understand how shipping companies and shipping departments operate.

How Navigate International Helped

Working in partnership with a team of consultants from McQuilling Services, the highly reputed consulting division of McQuilling Shipping, Inc., Navigate engaged study participants from around the world and provided the research methodology, multi-lingual interviewing capability, and analysis. When combined with the deep domain expertise of McQuilling Services, the project resulted in a powerful and globally relevant benchmarking study that supported executive strategy design for the client’s shipping division.

Value Delivered

Based on the research and analysis derived through Navigate’s benchmarking study, McQuilling Services was able to develop and recommend a relevant and actionable development program for the client based on truly global best practices. The information and insights derived through this benchmarking study gave the client’s management the confidence and credibility they needed to propose and implement an organizational restructuring to improve the performance of the shipping maintenance operations.
