Project
International Technology Scouting
Executive Summary
The client launched a forward-looking and proactive campaign to identify new technologies and new markets for growth by investigating early stage technologies. Navigate International was engaged to design and implement a global technology scouting program to identify and qualify new technologies and applications that would drive significant future demand in the client’s industry.
Business Challenge
The client operates within the highly competitive and mature industrial products sector. In order to identify and secure significant new market opportunities, the client must look to the horizon of technology to identify new processes and applications that will drive future demand for their core offerings. Navigate International was asked to assist in the identification and analysis of new technologies in markets outside of the United States.
How Navigate International Helped
Navigate worked closely with the New Technology Review Team, a task force within the R&D Group, to identify and analyze new business opportunities and intellectual property (IP) outside the United States for acquisition, investment or partnership. Navigate designed and implemented a Global Technology Scouting Program that matched and prioritized opportunities against defined qualification criteria and developed a network of partnerships with leading research centers and investment groups to facilitate the ongoing submission of IP.
Navigate provided:
- Business development strategy and program design
- A fresh perspective and a new way of looking at the market
- Resources on the ground in Germany, Italy, Brazil, Japan, India and the UK to implement the program
- Professional representation in dealing with foreign-based businesses and research centers
Value Delivered
Over the course of 4 months, Navigate identified and qualified more than 200 technologies that matched the project requirements. After rigorous technical analysis by the Corporate Review Team, more than 10 technologies were approved for further investigation. Navigate initiated the discussions and coordinated the transfer of responsibility to the client’s regional offices for further review and negotiations. As a by-product of the technology scouting campaign, Navigate identified several tangential revenue opportunities, which were passed on to the client’s regional sales offices.
